Must be something in the Water

Must be something in the water
Makes the goats slap horns
Uproots the vegetation
Has rich men screaming more! more!

Must be something in the water
Drains the blood from our bodies
Gives the skin a toxic shine
Has toddlers wailing mine! mine!

What would cause good men
To choose the rifle before the book
What would compel them to erase the landscape
To erect monuments to soft drinks

Must be something in the water
Creates a foggy film over young eyes
Allows men to poison their brothers
To keep their mothers pacified

Must be something in the water
Programs the fish to sprout legs
Gives bread a rubber consistency
Has the living strutting dead

Must be something in the water
That stirs our organs to hate
All that frees us
Good foods art our families

When we see a star and bide
Our time discussing all the reasons
Why we'll never reach it
We vomit tenderness from our spines

While prejudice goes right to our thighs
Most forget to sing forget to laugh
Forget to question why
Learn to fear instinct and trust metal signs

Must be something in the water
When strangers convince us to
Believe in borders and monopolies
To pay for the worthless the ephemeral

To misplace the priceless under sofas
Leave homeless children in the gutters
With 4 empty rooms in our chambers
Mindfulness is swept like crumbs off dinner tables

Plastic vices guide us to a new zoology
We cower at assembly line boogie monsters
The new religion starves us into ecstasy
Mnemonic demonic devices divide us

Must be something thats inside us
Where comics make more sense than senators
When conformity is the only rebellion
When revenge sounds like a viable option

When Commercials Technology Armed Forces
Pose as the modern holy trinity
Must be something in the water
That stops us from crossing the bridge to Divinity

Melody and Harmony

We speak like a choir patterned
Precisely connected
Opposed to complement
In continual descents and ascents

Harmony challenges the room’s acoustics
Affecting insects and firmaments now idle
To reanimate in phony resurrections

Until the echoes made bounce back
Like abandoned ghosts sent to distract
The paths of a sonata we have woven
To cover us from hailstorms

Distant earthquakes nudge the planet
Mineral sonar deployed
To retrieve and rescue our missing otherness

The mimicry of our maker
Has led us to this ethereal beheading
Aftershock leaves our unconscious unfulfilled
Like mended leaves again dissected

As two separate reflections of one rendering
Too distinct to realize its own mockery

For we are born distinct
Instinctively like lab rats placed among
A world of dividing lines
Mathematical symbols planted like mines
To keep all adjacent things as

Greater or lesser to the thing next to it
Deep see diving for a relation that equals us
To rearrange the melody so the notes match our own

We have been led to where there are others
Like negative magnetic fields gravitating together
Increasing exponentially
Here the otherness is a cloud that straddles the entire city

We are pinned down and
Suffocated by too many equations to be made
On one sidewalk in decomposing symphonies of
Notes crowding the melody and
No order can be made to
The music in this madness

The madness of this music
A noise like an overbearing father
Making the world outside off limits

So here in the center of this plane
Are buried 8 million sides of me
Each one of them
The loneliest person in this world

The other half has
Combed the desert for a voice
Whose pitch might mix to make…

Plucking strings
Fumbling with time signatures
Listening for the right key
And in listening for a new rhythm
Found your melody
An everlasting harmony

The Learning

I am still learning
To be strong
On the days
You wake up hating me.

You aim your
Shoulder
At the sky,
Defiling me.

I practice
Making tea
Out of pleas
And allegories,

Searching each morning
Through classifieds
For a pedestal
Where I can place myself.

Aphorism

Anonymity will be the next revolution
